In November of 2023, Tracey Washington lost her son, Breonte Johnson-Davis at the hands of Palmetto Police while he was in the midst of mental health crisis.
Ms. Washington experienced first-hand the indifference and hostility of the police and city as she tried to get justice for her son. She turned this grief into action and has been fighting to make sure that in the future, no other parents lose their children to violence. Along with the Walk A Mile In Our Shoes monuments, Ms. Washington has founded Healing Hearts- a support group for surviving mothers and children, and has been advocating for a program in her city that would send mental health professionals to calls like Breonte's instead of police.
Tawana Spann is a powerful voice for families who have experienced unimaginable loss. A devoted mother, entrepreneur, advocate, author, speaker, and podcaster, her world changed forever on September 5, 2017, when her 14-year-old son Jabez Spann went missing. That moment stopped time. In the face of unbearable grief, Tawana chose not to let the pain define her, but to transform it into purpose.
Out of that pain, she founded the Jabez Spann Foundation and co-founder of Healing Hearts, a support group created for grieving mothers and families navigating trauma and loss. She has become a voice for the voiceless and a light for those walking through the darkest seasons of life, reminding them that they are not alone—and that healing, though hard, is possible.
